Getting Ready for Air Conditioning Season

April 30, 2016

Summer isn’t officially here but the temperatures are definitely rising and that means it’s time for A/C season. Before the temperatures soar and you’re running your A/C system 24/7 to stay comfortable, don’t forget to call your AC service technician to visit your home and complete your annual ac maintenance.

In addition to an AC system tune-up, there are several other ways you can prepare for the cooling season before warmer weather is officially here to stay.

  • Clean Your System

We don’t mean for you to take you’re A/C system apart, let a professional do that, but you can clean up the space around your A/C to get rid of sticks and debris that have made their way to your air conditioner during the windy winter and stormy spring. Mow the grass around the system and trim back any overgrown shrubs or vegetation to make sure your cooling equipment is clear of debris. Clearing the air way can help keep your air conditioning unit running properly.

·     Change Your Home’s Air Filters

Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning will change your home’s basic air filters when they conduct your seasonal tune-up as part of your regular A/C maintenance. You can (and should) also replace your HVAC air filters by yourself, and it’s advised that you do so at least every four to eight weeks for optimal performance. If you don’t replace your filter it accumulates dust, allergens, and germs so for the health of your family and the efficiency of your air conditioner, make sure you’re changing those filters as part of your standard A/C system service. Remember, a clogged filter could even damage your AC equipment.

  • Block the Sun

Hanging blackout drapes or window shades can help keep your home cooler and avoid the sun from heating up your home. Hanging drapes or curtains may also help protect your furniture and floors from fading or experiencing sun damage over time.

·     Check Alarm Batteries

If you didn’t spend daylight savings checking the batteries in your smoke and CO detectors, now it the perfect time. While you’re at it, check the batteries in your thermostat to make sure it is functioning properly so you don’t end up calling your air conditioning repair technician because your A/C isn’t running and then it ends up just being the thermostat. You could also consider purchasing a programmable thermostat so you can adjust the temperature while you’re away and save money on your energy bills.

A seasonal A/C system tune-up service could make your system up to 30% more efficient and save you money on your utility bills. Call Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning today to make sure your cooling equipment is ready to keep you cool and comfortable for the summer and find out about our spring specials on AC Precision tune-ups.
